Nobody’s Talking: Transgender and Intersex Topics in Sex Education

From the Author:

“I’ve been interested in sexuality and sex education for some time, but it wasn’t until Dr. Mel Lewis’s course Gender Identity, Expression, and the Body that I became interested in intersex issues and their representation in sex education curricula. I was surprised and upset to realize how much information I had been lacking until that course. I am proud of this paper not only because it was the largest and most comprehensive academic project I had taken on at that point in my education, but also because I was able to practice using my academic knowledge and passions to make policy recommendations with the potential to impact the lives of kids and teenagers in very concrete ways. I am very thankful to Dr. Mel Lewis for supporting me in this project and the overall course, and for encouraging me (and countless other students) to think critically, intersectionally, and holistically. ”
