Each year, the Kratz Center for Creative Writing at Goucher College offers summer writing fellowships that range from between $2,000 to $4,000. The Kratz Center is pleased to welcome this year’s Summer Writing Fellows (in alphabetical order):
Nessa Rose Brooks will write a series of poems inspired by rail travel around Europe.
Ariana Collier will write a murder mystery/family drama set in Eastern Europe, with specific attentionto locations in Hungary and Serbia.
Max Davis will research Baltimore and its historically significant surrounding areas to write a series of short stories based thematically in dark historical fiction.
Olivia DeSena will take a road trip to “haunted” locations serially visited by accredited “ghost hunters” to write a horror fiction novella about a ghost hunter trio.
Nikki Johnson will spend two weeks in Öland, Sweden, to complete cultural research for her novel entitled, The End.
Kira Morton will write a series of poems exploring the impacts of gentrification in the Pacific Northwest, specifically in Portland and Seattle.
Tovah Oslovich will travel to Ireland/Northern Ireland to research and write poems involving Irish folklore, history, and her own Irish heritage.
Willow Meir will explore Alaskan parks and cities as world-building research for a short fiction series.
Maya Platt-Chilkotowsky will travel to Marburg, Germany, the town where the Brothers Grimm wrote many of their classic fairy tales, to research and write short story retellings of fairy tales with a connection to both historic and present-day Marburg.
Taylor Rogers will travel to Edinburgh, Scotland, to research and write a horror novel taking place during the city’s famed Fringe Festival.
