Maryland General Assembly Honors President Sanford J. Ungar

Goucher College President Sanford J. Ungar was honored for his service to higher education with commendations from both the Maryland State Senate and the House of Delegates. On March 6, Ungar was presented with resolutions in front of the entire General Assembly on the floors of both houses of the state legislature in Annapolis.

House Speaker Michael E. Busch presented a resolution that recognized Ungar for his “dedication to diversity, commitment to higher education access, and belief that all students should graduate as citizens of the world.” The honor was sponsored and presented by Del. Stephen D. Lafferty (D-Baltimore County).

Senate President Thomas V. “Mike” Miller presented a resolution, sponsored by Sen. Jamin B. “Jamie” Raskin (D-Mongomery County), that congratulated Ungar’s “extraordinary leadership in 13 years as President of Goucher College. We commend his dedication to diversity and commitment to higher education.”

Ungar was joined by members of his senior staff, former students, Goucher Trustee Robin Fogel Shaivitz ’72, and Tina Bjarekull, president of the Maryland Independent College and University Association.
