Every year 70 billion pounds of food are thrown away in the United States, while one of six Americans lacks consistent access to food. To highlight this waste and disparity, Goucher College is presenting Dive!, a documentary about dumpster diving–searching through trash for discarded but still-edible food—on Thursday, April 10, at 8 p.m. in the Pinkard Room of Athenaeum.
This award-winning documentary follows filmmaker Jeremy Seifert and others in the back alleys and gated garbage receptacles of Los Angeles’ supermarkets. In the process, they salvage thousands of dollars of good, edible food. The film has been called equal parts entertainment, guerilla journalism, and call to action.
Join the Goucher Food Recovery Network for a screening of the film, along with snacks and a discussion about the mission to eliminate the waste of edible food. This event is free, open to the public, and no reservations are needed. Contact the Goucher Food Recovery Network at FRN@mail.goucher.edu for more info.
