The President’s Office is proud to announce the Spring 2013 Innovation Grant winners.
For 15 years, the Innovation Grant Program has provided seed money to implement many exciting and effective campus projects proposed by Goucher students, faculty, and staff.
Past projects include Goucher’s recycling and composting initiatives, an expansion of the college’s e-book collection, a program to support academics in the Baltimore City public schools, a faculty/staff yoga class, a clean stream project on campus, and the support and expansion of study-abroad opportunities.
Funded by the Office of the President, grants generally range between $200 and $5,000. The typical project is awarded between $1,000 to $2,000. The selection process was very competitive this year, but the following three projects were chosen to receive Innovation Grants this semester:
iPath: Illuminating Pathways to Vibrant Engagement

Awarded to: Cass Freedland, director of community-based learning, and Lindsay Johnson, associate director of community-based learning
Purpose: To create a program to provide a multifaceted, year-round experience that will catalyze inventive and interconnected community participation by faculty and students.
Una Mejor Vida: Latino Voices on Survival and Transformation

Awarded to: Frances Ramos-Fontan, director of the Futuro Latino Learning Center, and Florencia Cortes-Conde, associate professor in the Department of Hispanic Languages, Literatures, and Cultures
Purpose: To develop and launch a project that obtains intimate narratives of Latinos residing in Maryland through in-depth interviews to create a permanent record of their experiences as immigrants.

Awarded to: Todd Troester ’15, Billy Daly ’16, Jordan Javelet ’15, and Emily Timothy ’16
Purpose: To create a summer program, GRAIN, to improve the sustainability of Goucher’s garden and greenhouse during the prime growing season.
