Student Engagement and Philanthropy Day

On Thursday, February 28, Goucher College will join nearly 100 educational institutions worldwide to participate in the first-ever Student Engagement and Philanthropy Day. The initiative, organized by CASE Affiliated Student Advancement Programs (ASAP), is designed to increase student understanding of philanthropy on college and university campuses.

Institutions from the United States, England, South Africa, and Australia will participate in the event through various activities, including “thank-a-thons,” daylong social-media campaigns, and student video interviews about what giving means to them.

At Goucher, tables wills be set up along Van Meter Highway in front of the Athenaeum from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. where students will be able to make a gift to the Greater Goucher Fund in honor of someone who has meant a lot to their Goucher experience, such as their favorite teacher, adviser, coach, or roommate. Students also will be able to provide a video testimonial “thank you” to alumnae/i that will be posted on the Gophers for Goucher webpage and Facebook page.

“With more than 82 percent of our student body receiving some sort of tuition assistance, making a gift to the Greater Goucher Fund is an immediate, heartfelt way they can say thank you for the support of our loyal alumnae/i,” says Greg Permison, annual giving officer at Goucher College. “It also helps establish the students who are on campus now as the future philanthropic leaders of Goucher College.”

CASE ASAP provides programming, services, and resources in advancement—including fundraising and alumni relations—for students and advisers at student alumni associations, student foundations, and similar organizations at 375 colleges and universities that are members of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. Headquartered in Washington, DC, CASE is the professional organization for advancement professionals at all levels who work in alumni relations, communications, fundraising, marketing, and other areas.

Student Engagement and Philanthropy Day is part of CASE ASAP’s goal to foster and enhance student involvement in all areas of advancement, including fundraising, alumni relations, communications, and marketing.

“It’s important that students start taking steps to become the next group of philanthropic leaders,” says Rob Henry, CASE’s executive director of emerging constituencies. “On February 28, we celebrate the value students bring to their institutions with their time, talent, and treasure.”
