Goucher Named Best Buy in “Fiske Guide to Colleges”

Goucher College has been included in the annual college guide Fiske Guide to Colleges. The guide is a subjective but systematic collection of profiles of more than 300 colleges and universities in the United States, Canada, and Great Britain that was compiled by former New York Times education editor Edward B. Fiske.

In the guide Goucher is cited for its “long-standing history of excellence,” “rigorous general education program,” “trademark small classes and individual attention,” as well as for its study abroad requirement for all undergraduates.

Additionally, Goucher was among 44 institutions—22 public and 22 private colleges and universities—that were designated a “Best Buy.” For more than 30 years, the guide has chosen this select group of schools that are noted for quality academic offerings and affordable cost.

The featured “Best Buy” colleges are selected based on a variety of principles, including student body, academics, social life, financial aid, campus setting, housing, food, and extracurricular activities. All of the “Best Buy” schools fall into the inexpensive or moderate price category, and most have four- or five-star ratings in academics.
