This assignment allows them to delve deeper into a topic we may have touched on in class or to learn about a topic we didn\u2019t have time to cover. Maddy\u2019s paper on \"Visual, Auditory, and Olfactory Sexual Selection Methods in Birds Inform Mate Choice by Serving as Indicators for Mate Quality\" was very well written and thoroughly researched. Sexual selection has been a popular paper topic throughout my years of teaching this course and Maddy\u2019s review is certainly one of the best I\u2019ve read! It was my pleasure to nominate this paper for publication in Verge and am so pleased it is included in this issue.\"  - Cynthia Kicklighter\n\n<\/p>\n\n--><\/p>\n<h4>From the Author:<\/h4>\n<p>&#8220;I got the idea for the paper after exploring the archives for a previous research paper and finding a children\u2019s magazine from 1926. I discovered that P&#038;G would buy a page every month in the magazine to create an ongoing storyline for young children to follow and to advertise Ivory Soap. The story was called \u201cThe Ivory Heroes\u201d which featured a group of mythical creatures and young white children who traveled around the world cleaning places with Ivory soap. The issue I discovered featured the Ivory Heroes going to Africa and cleaning an African village. <\/p>\n<p>After doing a in-depth study of the ad\u2019s explicit racism and how the company got to that point, I became curious about how the company continued their history of explicit and subliminal racism in their advertisements.
