New Goucher College Poll released

The latest results from the Goucher College Poll were released September 19. Maryland residents were asked their opinions on the direction and the economic conditions of the state, race relations, and more, while likely voters were asked for their candidate preferences in the upcoming statewide general election contests. The poll was featured in a variety of local and national media, including in The Baltimore Banner, The Washington Post, and MSNBC.

Goucher and Middlebury College announce new 4+1 programs

Goucher College has partnered with the Middlebury Language Schools to offer four 4+1 master’s degree programs, further strengthening Goucher’s commitment to global education. These new undergraduate and graduate dual degrees include a master of arts in French, a master of arts in applied languages in French, a master of arts in Spanish, and a master of arts in applied languages in Spanish.

Goucher College and Johns Hopkins University Announce New Partnership

Goucher College and Johns Hopkins University have announced an agreement to create an entry pathway for Goucher undergraduate students pursuing a master’s degree at Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing. Beginning in Fall 2022, this program linkage will offer Goucher students a dedicated program liaison and chief advisor through the graduate school admissions process for the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree.

CNN hires two Goucher community members

CNN recently announced two Goucher community members have joined the cable news network. Jonah Goldberg ’91, conservative political commentator, co-founder of The Dispatch, and Los Angeles Times columnist, has been named a CNN contributor. David Zurawik, assistant professor of journalism, media criticism, and new media, was previously The Baltimore Sun’s TV and media critic for more than 30 years and a regular contributor to CNN’s “Reliable Sources.” He was named a CNN media analyst.

Goucher and Edenwald explore University-Based Retirement Community

Goucher College and Edenwald Senior Living have signed a letter of intent to explore jointly developing a University-Based Retirement Community (UBRC). This concept, in which residents can take advantage of the academic, social, and cultural programming offered by a college, has gained popularity in recent years with other universities across the country. The concept integrates lifelong learning offered by the college or university with attractive residences, services, and amenities tailored for the retiree.

Goucher sees 40% return on endowment

Goucher College saw a 40.0 percent return on its endowment for the 2021 fiscal year, which closed as of June 30, with the College’s total investments standing at approximately $259 million. The 40 percent return on investments puts Goucher well above the 31.0 percent reported by Cambridge Associates for endowments of a similar size (<$300M). Goucher has outperformed its portfolio objectives, policy benchmark, and peers over a 10-year timeframe.

Goucher establishes $2M endowed professorship in biological sciences and chemistry

Through the Maryland E-Nnovation Initiative, the Maryland Department of Commerce has awarded $1 million to Goucher College, matched by $1 million alumnae/i contributions, for the $2 million endowed professorship in biological sciences and chemistry. This new professorship will help prepare undergraduate science students pursue advanced graduate and professional degrees in biological sciences, chemistry, and medicine. In addition, they will teach in Goucher’s nationally ranked Post-baccalaureate Premedical Program.

Goucher College announces Arsht Presidential Diplomats

Goucher College is proud to announce the Arsht Presidential Diplomats, a distinguished group of student leaders chosen to represent Goucher at a variety of meetings with community, governmental, and business leaders. As part of the Roxana Cannon Arsht ’35 Center for Ethics and Leadership, these 10 undergraduate and graduate student leaders represent the various constituencies within Goucher’s diverse student population. This first cohort of Diplomats was selected this fall.
