Goucher partners with Loyola to offer five graduate degree pathways
Goucher College and Loyola University Maryland have announced an expanded partnership to offer more pathways to graduate school. Beginning in Fall 2024, Goucher undergraduate students will have access to a fast-track admissions process for five Loyola graduate programs, including biological forensics, data science, forensic pattern analysis, school counseling, and business for emerging leaders.
Evan Dawley receives Fulbright Award
Associate Professor of History Evan Dawley has received a Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program award to Taiwan for the 2024-25 academic year. Dawley will be conducting research on the republic of China and its diplomatic relations with members of Chinese and Taiwanese diasporas from the 1920s to the 1970s.
Goucher names new vice president for enrollment and student success
Michael Marshall, Ed.D., has been selected as the new vice president for enrollment and student success and will join Goucher College on July 1. Marshall, who has served in various higher education roles for more than 20 years, was selected through a comprehensive national search. He will serve on the President’s Cabinet and report directly to Goucher College President Kent Devereaux.
Goucher student earns nationally competitive Critical Language Scholarship
This summer, Esther Everson ’25 will continue to deepen their global perspective in Meknes, Morocco, as part of the prestigious Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, the nationally competitive program has an acceptance rate of less than 10%.
Faculty tenure and promotions
Four Goucher College faculty members from a range of liberal arts disciplines have been promoted, with two of them receiving tenure. Arlette Ngoubene Atioky and Asha Shepard have been promoted to associate professor and have received tenure, and Matthew Hale and Jeanie Murphy have been promoted to professor.
Goucher College announces $55 million donation
Goucher College has announced it will receive an approximately $55 million gift — the largest donation in the institution’s 140-year history. The gift, a bequest from Goucher alumna Anica Donnan Rawnsley ’51 will sustain scholarships in future years and ensure continued opportunities and support for Goucher students. This new bequest will help to strengthen Goucher’s endowment, which currently stands at approximately $235 million and is ranked in the top 16% of all private colleges and universities in the country.

The piece highlights Goucher’s efforts to help students struggling academically to engage in effective learning strategies and increase their cumulative GPAs.
Goucher College Poll shares insight into Marylander’s opinions
The Goucher College Poll is the preeminent poll measuring the opinions of Maryland residents and voters on important policy, social, and economic issues. Goucher students help research survey questions, design the questionnaire, and analyze the results. Earlier this month, Maryland registered voters were asked their opinions on several issues about the upcoming race for the U.S. Senate, on Gov. Wes Moore, and on the direction of and economic conditions in Maryland.
Goucher launches new public health major and partners with Johns Hopkins University
Goucher College has announced a new undergraduate major in public health that will explore the multidisciplinary field and the science of protecting and improving the health of people and their communities. Distinctive features of Goucher’s new program are the emphasis on global health and the strong focus on social justice and environmental sustainability. Goucher students will also have unique access to a 4+1 undergraduate and graduate degree program with Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, where they can earn their undergraduate degree at Goucher while pursuing a Master’s of Health Sciences in Social Factors in Health or a Master’s of Bioethics at Johns Hopkins.
Goucher participates in ‘Year of Service’
Goucher College has been named a host site for the inaugural class of Service Year Option and Maryland Corps members in a partnership with the Maryland Department of Service and Civic Innovation. The department aims to expand service and volunteerism statewide, creating new pathways of service to meet community needs, enhance workforce development, and promote preparedness for both collegiate and vocational education.
