Eight New Faculty Members Join Goucher

Eight new members have joined Goucher’s faculty this fall, including a director for the Sarah T. Hughes Center for Politics and a director for the M.A. in Applied Policy Analysis Program. New professors will also be teaching computer science, dance, public health, biological sciences, digital arts, chemistry, and more.

Fall Arts, Lectures, and Celebrations

There’s a little bit of everything happening at Goucher this fall, with performances by violinist Rachel Barton Pine, readings from poets Bobby Elliott and Nate Marshall and novelists Kate Quinn and Jennifer De Leon, and a talk by former U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. Plus, the college will be celebrating the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth and the 50th anniversary of Goucher’s renowned Jane Austen Collection. Goucher Welcomes Six New Members to the Board of Trustees

The Goucher College Board of Trustees has announced six new members, including four Goucher graduates. These new trustees have a wide range of business and nonprofit experience, particularly in fundraising, affordable housing, medicine, and higher education. They join the college as it undertakes new projects and partnerships for which their perspectives and knowledge will be vital.

Goucher College Receives Excellence in Mental Health and Well-Being Award

Insight Into Academia recently recognized institutions across the nation that commit to campus-wide integration of mental health initiatives, including accessible services, peer support, emotional resilience, and proactive policy. Goucher’s Student Counseling Center was selected because of its robust mental health and well-being services, programs, and events that include all campus members.

Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Jane Austen Collection at Goucher

Events include A Lively Mind: Jane Austen at 250 (June 6 – September 14, 2025) at The Morgan Library in New York City, curated by Juliette Wells, Professor of Literary Studies, showcasing donations to both institutions by Goucher alumna Alberta Hirshheimer Burke ’28, and If I Loved You Less: Celebrating Jane Austen’s 250th Birthday and the 50th Anniversary of the Jane Austen Collection at Goucher College, a public celebration on September 13, 2025 at Goucher. Goucher’s collection also includes the Jane Austen Society of North America (JASNA) archives of which Alberta’s husband Henry G. Burke was a founder, along with Joan Austen-Leigh and J. David Grey.

Baltimore Region Investment Summit

The innovation taking place at Goucher was highlighted recently by President Devereaux at the Baltimore Region Investment Summit. Hosted by the Greater Baltimore Committee, he was joined by leaders like David Rubenstein, Owner of the Baltimore Orioles and Brandon Scott, Mayor of Baltimore. They shared insights on the major investments shaping the future of the Baltimore Region, including this year’s announcement that the Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, a nationally recognized leader in construction management and general contracting, announced plans to relocate its corporate headquarters to the Goucher campus.

Goucher and ISEP Study Abroad announce strategic partnership

Goucher College and ISEP Study Abroad have announced a new strategic partnership that brings together these two leaders in study abroad to expand access to transformative educational opportunities for all students. By innovating study abroad programming and increasing access for students across the globe, Goucher and ISEP will cultivate international learning opportunities and outcomes that will impact students worldwide. The partnership further strengthens Goucher’s focus on global education and its work of inspiring global changemakers.  

[UNDAUNTED] comprehensive capital campaign surpasses goal

This month, we mark the conclusion of the [UNDAUNTED] comprehensive capital campaign and the success of the past decade, as the campaign far exceeded its $100 million goal to fund scholarships, professorships, and transformative projects across campus. Raising more than $170 million and looking towards future endeavors, the campaign led to the completion of capital projects, including the Evelyn Dyke Schroedl ’62 tennis courts, Mary Fisher Dining Hall, and the move of Froelicher Hall to make way for the First-Year Village. Building The Judy C. Lewent Science Center ’70 is the campaign’s final stage. This $50 million, 44,000-square-foot building will create an exciting environment for interdisciplinary learning and hands-on research for faculty and students. Fundraising will continue to outfit the state-of-the-art Lewent Science Center while construction is completed over the next two years.
