Goucher Magazine: Briefly describe your research (what you do, where you do it, why you do it).
\n<\/strong>Phoebe Yeoh: I am at Carnegie Mellon, doing a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering.\u00a0 My project is to develop and\u00a0understand\u00a0the fundamental science behind resistive switching materials. \u00a0 These\u00a0materials can be used to create memory and storage for faster, more powerful computers, and are of great interest to companies like Intel and Micron.<\/p>\n

How has the transition to grad school gone? What\u2019s different?
\n<\/strong>It’s been relatively smooth, and Carnegie Mellon has tons of\u00a0resources and support for graduate students.\u00a0 However, there are lots of times when I miss the close-knit, quirky community at Goucher.<\/p>\n

Are you doing anything fun in your spare time?<\/strong>
\nI write short stories, and explore the food and culture in Pittsburgh.\u00a0 This weekend I’m going to see a classical Indian dance troupe.<\/p>\n

What are you working on now?<\/strong>
\nHomework, as well as training on all the research equipment!\u00a0 I am also applying for a graduate fellowship sponsored by the National Science Foundation, which I’ll hear about\u00a0in April.<\/p>\n

How did Goucher prepare you for what you\u2019re doing now?<\/strong>
\nMy physics and math classes at Goucher were rigorous enough for me to (so far!) survive graduate classes at one of the top engineering schools in the world.\u00a0 I also met a lot of diverse\u00a0people at Goucher, which really influenced my personal growth.<\/p>\n

What is your most vivid Goucher memory?<\/strong>
\nOn Halloween during my senior year, I dressed up as a bearded nun and scared all my professors, as well as some city folk in downtown Baltimore.<\/p>\n

How do you stay connected to the college?<\/strong>
\nI keep up with my friends in the class of 2016, and follow This is My Goucher on Instagram and\u00a0Facebook.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
