Listen to their music on the <a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/playlist\/5d6riU75LBzMeDW2kFCjPX\">Goucher Alumni Mixtape<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008085\"><em><b>How and when did M\u00fasica Eugenia get together?<\/b>\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In 2007, I retired from a peripatetic career and settled in Eugene, OR.\u202fI began taking voice lessons and started singing again after a hiatus of over 40 years.\u202fFor a medium-sized city, Eugene hosts a remarkable number of talented musicians, and I was fortunate to meet Raleigh Williams (1928-2019), a lutenist and vocalist who had performed early music on a semi-professional basis for over 60 years. Raleigh took me under his musical wing, and for about a decade he and I performed English Renaissance songs in venues around Eugene.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008085\"><em><b>Why the name \u201cM\u00fasica Eugenia\u201d?<\/b>\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">After a few years, Raleigh and I decided to call ourselves \u201cM\u00fasica Eugenia\u201d since we mainly performed in the Eugene area.\u202fBy then we had been joined by Peter Thomas, a musician with decades of experience as a classical guitarist, composer, and teacher.\u202f\u202f<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008085\"><em><b>What has been your role in the group?<\/b>\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I have been the group\u2019s lead vocalist, although over the years other vocalists have occasionally joined me for performances and on the albums.\u202fIn addition, I\u2019ve worked with my musical partners to design M\u00fasica Eugenia\u2019s live programs and the content of our albums.\u202fMy most important contribution, however, may have been introducing my original M\u00fasica Eugenia\u202fcolleagues to the musical repertoire of the Spanish Renaissance.\u202f<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008085\"><em><b>Does M\u00fasica Eugenia still perform these days?<\/b>\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Yes and no.\u202fCo-founder Raleigh Williams passed away in 2019.\u202fThen COVID put an end to most live performances for a while. However, in the years since Raleigh\u2019s passing, M\u00fasica Eugenia has published three CDs.\u202fOne CD was a collection of popular songs from the English Renaissance, and the other two albums featured Spanish songs. My M\u00fasica Eugenia colleague Peter Thomas played classical guitar on one album.\u202fOn the two other albums, I was accompanied by Hideki Yamaya, a noted performer of lute, early guitar, and early mandolin.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">M\u00fasica Eugenia continues to post music videos on\u202ftwo YouTube channels. At present we have\u202fno new albums in the works, but stay tuned!<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008085\"><em><b>Other items of interest?\u202f<\/b>\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In 2023, M\u00fasica Eugenia participated in\u202fGoucher\u2019s Micro-Internship Program.\u202fThree students submitted video art projects, including<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><strong><span style=\"color: #008085\">Alexandra Hagen \u201923<\/span><\/strong>, who did one for \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=IXXvpqBn0Cs\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Dindirindin<\/span><\/a><span
