The Goucher College women\u2019s and men\u2019s golf programs will begin their inaugural season this year in the Landmark Conference as Goucher\u2019s 19th and 20th NCAA sanctioned teams.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m really looking forward to the start of the season and I\u2019m honored to be a part of the inception of golf at Goucher,\u201d says Head Golf Coach Hunter Brown. \u201cWe\u2019ve worked really hard to get a great first group of men and women in here and we\u2019re excited to get them out to compete.\u201d<\/p>\n
Both the women and men plan to participate in four tournaments during the fall semester, closing out with the inaugural Goucher Fall Invitational held at Hillendale Country Club in nearby Phoenix (MD)\u2014the home of the Goucher College golf teams.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m pleased with the events we have on the schedule for the fall. We\u2019re going to be playing quite a bit\u2014with the men in five events and the women in four\u2014and that\u2019s really a strategic move to give our almost exclusively first-year teams the opportunity to acclimate to college golf,\u201d explains coach Brown.<\/p>\n
Goucher will be welcoming six student-athletes on both the men\u2019s and women\u2019s teams, who\u2019ve come from as far as China to be a part of the team.<\/p>\n
\u201cOverall, we are very excited about the launch of the program and the first class of players we have,\u201d Brown says. \u201cWe expect them to develop into really strong teams over the course of the next few years.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThey have the opportunity to come in and play as first-year students, and they are excited about that,\u201d says Brown, who was a three-time All-Southland Conference golfer at the University of Texas-Arlington from 2009-2013. While with the Mavericks, Brown was a key contributor in an All-Southland Conference title and individually earned two berths to the NCAA regional championships. Since his time at UTA, he has played golf professionally for four years.<\/p>\n
The Goucher College women\u2019s golf team finished its first event in program history, placing third at the Bay Creek Invitational hosted in Cape Charles, Va, while the men\u2019s golf team finished fourth overall.<\/p>\n
The men\u2019s and women\u2019s Landmark Conference Golf Championships will be held in April 2018. The women\u2019s title match is scheduled for April 28-29 at Susquehanna with the men playing at Scranton May 5-6.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
