No current discussion options will be discontinued, but Discussions will have an updated user interface and new features. This update will also have an impact on the Announcements interface. The new design is already available for Teachers to turn on in their courses earlier than July 20<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0if desired (see below for more details).<\/p>\n<p>Included in this notice:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What\u2019s New\n<ul>\n<li>Interface Modifications<\/li>\n<li>New Features<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Learn More<\/li>\n<li>Switching to New Discussions\/Announcements Early<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>WHAT\u2019S NEW<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h4><strong>Interface Modifications<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>For individual discussion and announcement topics, the following modifications have been made:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The toolbar appears at the top of the discussion and announcement thread.<\/li>\n<li>Newest replies display at the top of the first page instead of the bottom of the last page.<\/li>\n<li>Users can sort replies from newest to oldest, or oldest to newest.<\/li>\n<li>Users can also quickly move to the top of the discussion or announcement at any time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n[Screenshot of current discussion thread compared to new discussion thread]\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/canvas.goucher.edu\/courses\/16280\/files\/2717203\/preview\" alt=\"Current\/Previous Discussion Screenshot\" data-api-endpoint=\"https:\/\/canvas.goucher.edu\/api\/v1\/courses\/16280\/files\/2717203\" data-api-returntype=\"File\" \/><\/p>\n<h4><strong>New Features<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Anonymous discussions.*<\/li>\n<li>Labels for posts created by the \u201cAuthor\u201d or \u00a0\u201cTeacher\u201d for easy identification. Posts from TAs will also be labeled as \u201cTeacher\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>A streamlined view of multiple replies to the same post that can be displayed either \u201cinline\u201d (click to expand) or in a \u201csplit view\u201d (in a side panel).<\/li>\n<li>Supports mentions with the @ symbol. Enabling this new feature will update all Discussions and Announcements in the course. Teachers can switch back to the classic design again up until the July 20th deadline.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>From the Course page, go to Settings &gt; Feature Options [tab]<\/li>\n<li>Find \u201cDiscussions\/Announcement Redesign\u201d and click the X icon next to it on the right.<\/li>\n<li>Click \u201cEnabled\u201d to initiate the update.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>To go back to the classic design, follow these steps again and choose \u201cDisabled\u201d in step 3.
