Before you Begin:<\/h2>\n

Review the information provided in the What is Multi-Factor Authentication and Why Do We Need IT?<\/a> article prior to going through these instructions. Also, take the time to review the instructions before going through the steps.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Instructions:<\/h2>\n

Everyone must visit the MFA Setup Page to configure at lease one secondary verification method. You can choose to use the Microsoft Authenticator app (Option 1 below<\/strong>) and\/or choose a text or call to your phone (Option 2 below<\/strong>). Best practice is to set up both using the Microsoft Authenticator App as the default method with a phone verification (SMS or Call) as a backup.<\/p>\n

Please read the instructions below carefully prior to following the steps.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Option 1: Microsoft Authenticator App <\/strong><\/h3>\n

Once installed, this will be set as your default sign-in method. You can change this if you prefer to use a different method as your default.<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Visit the MFA Setup link<\/a> and sign in with your Office 365 username ([username]@goucher.edu<\/a>) and password. Click NEXT<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  2. From the Security info<\/em> page, click Add Method<\/strong> then select Authenticator App<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  3. Then click the Add<\/strong> button.\"\"<\/a><\/li>\n
  4. You will then be prompted to download the app to your phone. From your phone, launch the Google Play Store<\/strong> or the Apple App Store<\/strong>.\"\"<\/a><\/li>\n
  5. Search for and download the Microsoft Authenticator<\/strong> app. Once downloaded, click Next<\/strong> on the Microsoft Authenticator<\/em> window on your computer. Then click Next<\/strong> again.<\/li>\n
  6. Open the Microsoft Authenticator<\/strong> app and select to allow notifications (if prompted).<\/li>\n
  7. Select Add Account<\/strong> from the Customize and control<\/em> icon (3 vertical dots) in the upper-right corner.\"\"<\/a><\/li>\n
  8. Then select Work or school account<\/strong> (Android) or Scan a QR Code<\/strong> (iPhone).
    \nNOTE: <\/strong>If this is the first time setting up the Microsoft Authenticator app, you might receive a prompt asking whether to allow the app to access your camera (iOS) or to allow the app to take pictures and record video (Android). \u00a0Please select “Allow” so the authenticator app can access your camera to take a picture of the QR code in the next step.<\/li>\n
  9. Scan the QR code provided on the screen which will add the account to the device automatically. Once this is complete, click Next<\/strong> on your computer.<\/li>\n
  10. From your phone, click Approve<\/strong> to allow your account to be added to the Authenticator app.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Tip:<\/strong> If you are not able to scan the QR code or are denied access, you can still receive approval by providing the one-time password code found in the Microsoft Authenticator app.<\/p>\n

    Option 2: Phone (As Default or Backup Method)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    As a backup option to the Microsoft Authenticator app, it is recommended to add a second method. To receive a phone call or text to verify your identity, follow these steps:<\/p>\n

    1. Visit the MFA Setup link<\/a> and sign in with your Office 365 username ([username]@goucher.edu<\/a>) and password.<\/li>\n
    2. For first time users:\u00a0<\/strong>Click NEXT, and then click “I want to set up a different method<\/em>” link.

      \nFor users who already setup the Authenticator app<\/strong>: From\u00a0the Security info<\/em> page, click Add Method<\/p>\n

    3. Select Phone <\/strong>from the dropdown.

    4. Enter your cell phone number and choose the option to either Text me a Code<\/strong> or Call Me<\/strong>.\n
