Visiting Associate Professor of Physics at Goucher Rodney Yoder gave a talk at the American Physical Society’s annual conference Wednesday, March 20, titled “Particle Acceleration on a Chip: Laser-powered dielectric microstructures for research and industry“.
Pamela Thompson, Goucher assistant professor of art, recently attended a six-week residency at the Babayan Culture House in Ibrahimpasa, Turkey, with the assistance of a Goucher faculty grant. Her work was shown in an annual exhibition with the Turkish artist co-operative “Fabrikartgrup.”
Morgan Stevens ’15 has been honored with a Newman Civic Fellows Award by Campus Compact, a national coalition committed to fulfilling civic purposes in higher education. The award goes to college student leaders who use service, research, and advocacy to find solutions to challenges facing their communities. Goucher President Sanford J. Ungar nominated Stevens.
Candace Doane, director of community living, recently was elected president of the Maryland College Personnel Association, the state association for professionals in student affairs administration. She also received a Dedication to Professional Service Award at the recent College Student Educators International’s annual conference in Las Vegas.
The Society for the Teaching of Psychology has selected Jennifer McCabe, Goucher associate professor for psychology, for the 2013 Instructional Resource Award. She will receive a cash award for $1,500 to support her project “Learning Strategy Demonstrations for the Psychology Classroom.”
Distinguished alumnus Steve Zimmer ’92 recently won a second term on the Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education. He was referred to as the most independent current board member and a “bridge builder” in this Los Angeles Times article.
