Judaic Studies Workshops

Jeff Israel, Goucher visiting professor of Judaic studies, will lead these workshops on timely and relevant issues:

The Jewish Vote in the Election
Thursday, November 1

What are the political values that guide Jewish American voters? How is Judaism interpreted differently among Jewish conservatives and liberals? Who are Jews in the popular American political imagination? This workshop will address these questions and will present a broader discussion about religion and ethnicity in American politics.

American Zionism at a Crossroads
Thursday, November 29

Recent studies suggest that Zionism may be losing its appeal to younger Jews in America. What does commitment to Zionism entail? What are the main approaches to Zionism among Jewish Americans these days? Should Zionism be widely endorsed among Jewish and non-Jewish Americans in the 21st century? Participants will have a challenging but respectful conversation about this controversial issue.

Both workshops will be held in the Batza Room of the Athenaeum 7:15-8:45 p.m. and are free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided. This series is presented by Goucher Hillel and the Goucher Judaic Studies Program.
