Second Impressions

Novelist Sandy Lerner will discuss Second Impressions, her new sequel to Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, on Thursday, October 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the Batza Room of Goucher College’s Athenaeum.

This event is free and open to the public, but tickets must be reserved at www.goucher.edu/tickets or by calling 410-337-6333.

Painstakingly and accurately written in the language of Austen’s time, Second Impressions took Lerner more than 25 years to complete. Drawing its detail from novels, maps, and other sources, the novel follows the Bennet and Darcy families and explores questions of the characters’ lives a decade after the end of the original work. “Austen addicts, Second Impressions provides a new shot in the arm,” according to a recent review in Entrepreneur magazine.

Lerner, also co-founder of Cisco Systems and founder of Urban Decay cosmetics, has invested in the restoration of the Jane Austen family dwelling Chawton House in England, helping make it a center for English women’s writing. All proceeds from the book will go to Chawton House Library. Lerner has received honorary doctorates from Goucher College, University of Southampton in England, Shenandoah University, and Washington and Jefferson College.

The events is co-sponsored by the President’s Office of Goucher College and Goucher College Library.
