Curvature of the Earth

In Curvature of the Earth, a new art exhibit at Goucher College, Joyce Anitagrace presents mixed-media works concerning several inter-related ideas between logic and art.

Anitagrace, a professor at the Maryland Institute College of Art, explores the intersection of philosophy and mathematics; the act of mark-making and marking time; and the concept of the horizon line as optical illusion, painting convention, and an edge that divides as well as connects.

Taken as a whole, the exhibit concerns a space of engagement that is a continuous present, a curve that extends around the globe, which itself is in constant motion. There are no ending points and only one beginning or point of entry for artist or viewer. The viewer begins and begins again continuously. The solo exhibit, which is free and open to the public, is being presented in Rosenberg Gallery on Goucher’s campus, from Monday, September 8, to Monday, November 3. The art can be viewed Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. An artist’s reception will be held in the gallery on Friday, September 19, 6-9 p.m. Call 410-337-6477 or visit goucher.edu/rosenberg for more information.
