Goucher College Hall of Fame Inductees 2014

Goucher is honoring the fifth class of inductees into its Athletics Hall of Fame, which recognizes, honors, and perpetuates the memory of those individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the college’s athletics and intercollegiate athletics programs.

The induction ceremony will be held Friday, April 25, at 6 p.m. in Hyman Forum of the Athenaeum. The event will be part of Goucher’s Alumnae/i Weekend, which will be held April 25-27.

Goucher will honor the accomplishments of Sara Weaver ’98, Natalie Williams Brewer ’04, and Reeves Craig ’05 at the induction.

During her four years at Goucher, Sara Weaver ’98 led the women’s soccer team in goals, points, and shots. She continues to hold the college’s career goal-scoring record in the sport with 54 (15 more than the person in second place) and career total points record with 129. During her junior year, Weaver was voted Player of the Year in the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) and First Team All CAC. Goucher had only had six players earn First Team honors in the CAC, and Weaver did it in each of her four years playing soccer here–a terrific feat. During her senior year, she won the USA Today Scholar Athlete Award based on her academic achievement (GPA), athletic achievement and service. In addition to her outstanding soccer career at Goucher, Weaver also played basketball for the Gophers, scoring an impressive 10.3 average points per game her freshman year.

Natalie Williams Brewer ’04 was the only athlete in Goucher’s history to qualify twice for the NCAA Division III Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships—inthe hammer throw in her junior and senior years. As a sophomore, she recieved the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award, which was established to honor undergraduate students of color who exemplify the standards set by the tennis great. To be nominated, student-athletes must compete in an intercollegiate sport, maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2, and be active on their campuses or in their communities. She won the hammer event at the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) championships in her sophomore and senior years and the shot put event in her junior and senior years. For these achievements, she was named the CAC’s Women’s Track and Field Athlete of the Year her junior and senior years. As a junior, Williams was Goucher’s Scholar Athlete Award winner. During her senior year, she won Goucher’s prestigious Coaches Award.

In his senior year, Reeves Craig ’05 became only the second person in Goucher’s history to be selected to play in the STX Division III North/South All-Star Game for lacrosse. Craig was voted the Gophers’ Most Valuable Defensive Player in 2003, 2004, and 2005. He ranks second on the all-time list of goalies in Goucher’s history, with 709 saves, and he is ranked first in save percentage (.669). Craig was named First Team All Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) in 2003, 2004, and 2005. During those same years, he was named a United State Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association All-America Honorable Mention. He was the first player in Gopher history to earn an All-America recognition. Craig started all 48 games in his final three seasons with the Gophers and finished with a win-loss record of 26-22. His .712 save percentage in 2004 in the highest in a single season in Goucher history.

A permanent display of the Hall of Fame inductees is located in the lobby of Goucher’s Decker Sports & Recreation Center.
