Goucher College Changes Students’ Lives

Goucher College once again has been included in the popular guide Colleges That Change Lives: 40 Schools That Will Change the Way You Think About Colleges.

In the revised and expanded edition, education writer Hilary Masell Oswald conducted school tours and in-depth interviews to build on the original guide written by the late New York Times education editor Loren Pope.

The book profiles 40 colleges that excel at developing potential, values, and initiative in a wide range of students. Organized into five geographic regions (Northeast, South, Midwest, Southwest, Northwest), every profile includes details about admissions standards, distinguishing facts about the curriculum, extracurricular activities, and educational philosophies.

Each profile also includes information about the look and feel of the campus, quality of dining hall food, percentage of students who study abroad, where the school ranks in post-graduate grants and fellowships, percentage of students who go to graduate school, average SAT/ACT scores, what professors have to say about their schools, and what weekend activities are available to students.

“At Goucher we change our students’ lives by empowering them intellectually, by creating a learning environment that is collaborative rather than competitive, and by instilling a sense of community and connection that goes well beyond their four years of attendance,” said Goucher President Sanford J. Ungar. “We are so pleased and proud to be included in this guide once again.”

More than 150,000 copies of Colleges That Change Lives have been sold since it first was published in 1996. It has become a valuable tool for those who are searching for colleges with characteristics and outcomes that lead to life-changing possibilities for students.
