Currently, the Faculty Ad Hoc Governance Committee is pushing to bar students from attending faculty meetings. This information was relayed to GSG verbally, and is not connected to any individual emails.
Our issue with this process is that it means that student input into administrative and faculty decisions will be nonexistent. Additionally, there will be no guarantee of transparency in these decisions, which is problematic as faculty decisions profoundly affect all students – recall the academic prioritization process which eliminated several majors. We have taken this up as one of GSG’s 5 Administrative Issues because the lack of student input on this important, student-centered document sets a dangerous precedent for future administrative decisions involving students. It is important that we push back against this growing trend.
