class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Being a more inclusive teacher involves enhancing your own knowledge and your own practice. There are many things you can do right away to be more inclusive, but I truly believe that if you are committed to this fully, it will require consistent attention over the course of your career. \u00a0This page is just the beginning of what I hope will become a robust repository of resources to help you grow. <em>Note: topics here have hyperlinked articles to outside resources.<\/em><\/p><p><strong>Enhancing your practice:<\/strong><br \/>The University of Michigan has created an <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1QXOsiu5aDsbksadPpt0HqwNLXdLYfQayHa4miQ6PPpM\/edit#heading=h.30j0zll\">Inclusive Practices Checklist<\/a>, it may be worth looking it over and seeing how your course can be improved. Here are some additional ideas:<\/p><ul><li><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ijessnet.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/5.pdf\">Community building<\/a><\/em>\u00a0&#8211; essential to creating an environment in which students genuinely engage with each other on difficult\/controversial topics.<\/li><li><em>Learning student names and pronouns<\/em> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cultofpedagogy.com\/gift-of-pronunciation\/\">Mispronouncing a student&#8217;s name<\/a> or not using their <a href=\"https:\/\/thebodyisnotanapology.com\/magazine\/pronoun-round-etiquette\/\">preferred pronouns<\/a> is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/politics\/archive\/2015\/09\/microaggressions-matter\/406090\/\">microaggression<\/a> that can cause real harm. Make learning how your students want to be addressed a priority.<\/li><li><em>Diversifying your content<\/em> &#8211; time to review your syllabus, your readings, your slides and build in the voices, images, and experiences of marginalized <a href=\"https:\/\/radicalcopyeditor.com\/2016\/09\/12\/folx\/\">folx<\/a> and community members.
