Hello all, it’s drawing near to that time where we will all have to pack up our things and move back to campus. Like many of you, I am very excited for all of the things that this year has to offer. At the same time, I’m very anxious. There are any number of things to worry about. I know that I only worried about one thing in particular moving in during my first year. I worried about how I was going to get along with my roommate.

I remember putting on my roommate preference form that I wanted to be paired with a quiet, clean, and considerate roommate. Without insulting him I will only say that I was a little disappointed. This is what i suggest that you do, take it all in stride. No matter how much you want to be prepared or no matter how much your parents want you to be prepared, some things just simply have to happen. For instance, there’s no way to truly know what your roommates are going to be like. The easiest way to conquer this problem is to simply stop worrying.

So, enjoy the rest of your summer. You have a whole two semesters to worry. See you all soon.

Hello all, my name is Morris Johnson and I am a first year student here at Goucher. I’m from the Baltimore area, actually I went to high school, Loyola Blakefield, less than a mile from here. I am extremely involved in student life here at Goucher. Last semester I was a class representative for student governement association and before winter break I ran and won the the position of finance chair which is a vice presidential role in the student government association. I am a member of Umoja ,the black student union here on campus, as well as a member of the Lindy Hop swing dance club (don’t laugh).

To be honest, I think I’m so involved here on campus because there isn’t much else to do. Between studying, working, and friends, the only other attraction is the Gopher Hole, which, at least when I go, never has the ice cream I want. This doesn’t mean much because I’m extremely picky. I actually take that back, there are things to do but, most times, they don’t cater to my interests.

Anyway, to sum this little introduction up, I would say that this first year here at Goucher has been a year of opportunity. I, as a freshman, have been able to get involved here on campus in a big way. The classes I’ve taken thus far are interesting, (outside of poli-sci ) and engaging. I look forward to next semester. Talk to you all soon.
