Goucher College Welcomes First Free Summer Concert Series

Summer Stage features Baltimore bands, open to the public every Wednesday evening beginning June 8.

For the first time in Goucher College’s history, the college will welcome its first free summer concert series called Summer Stage.

“At Goucher we have a long and important tradition of serving our community. We do this with free lectures in Kraushaar, the Rosenberg concert, collaborations with and presentation with many local groups for camps and concerts, but we wanted to see if we could use our beautiful campus in the summer to do something outdoors for the entire family,” said President José Antonio Bowen. “We’d like for even more people to come explore our beautiful campus.”

The concert series will happen on Wednesday evenings in June (beginning June 8,
5:30-8:30 p.m.) on the Winslow Great Lawn. It will feature several local Baltimore bands, which were selected by recent Goucher graduate Kyra Smith ’16 and Alison Lohr, business management instructor and program director of the arts administration.

“Kyra and I wanted to showcase local, homegrown talent from Goucher,” said Lohr. “Three groups in this year’s lineup have Goucher alumni: Otherworld features Goucher music professor Jeffrey Chappell, as well as alums Chris Taylor and Jake Marinari; Sarah Sullivan is an alum; and Bosley has three alums in the band: Taylor and Marinari from Otherworld and Will Lederer. The Goucher talent runs deep.”

President Bowen, who is a jazz musician and has played with Stan Getz, Dave Brubeck, and Bobby McFerrin, says he is looking forward to the lineup.

“I love that we are featuring local groups, many with a Goucher connection,” said Bowen.

The entire concert series includes: Bosely, ellen cherry, Caleb Stine and The Brakemen, Patrick Alban & La Noche Latina, Otherworld, Sarah Sullivan & the New Old Fashioneds, and Swingin’ Swamis.

Summer Stage will have also have some of Baltimore’s best food trucks onsite, along with beer and wine. For more information about this family-friendly event, please visit: www.goucher.edu/summerstage
