Goucher Repertory Dance Ensemble Presents “Reflections”

The 2014 Goucher Repertory Dance Ensemble Fall Concert “Reflections”—held Friday, November 14, and Saturday, November 15—will feature Goucher students performing a diverse array of ballet and modern works by guest artists, historic choreographers, and Goucher faculty.

The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, with an additional matinée at 2 p.m. on Saturday. All performances will take place in Kraushaar Auditorium and are open to the public. Tickets are $15 general admission and $5 for students, senior citizens, and Goucher ID cardholders. Reservations can be made in advance at www.goucher.edu/tickets or by calling 410-337-6333.

Attendees will also have a chance to meet the artists and hear about their choreography at a pre-show discussion on Friday, November 14, at 6:45 p.m. in Goucher’s Merrick Hall.

The concert will feature “Chaconne,” a new work by guest artist Meredith Rainey, former soloist with the Pennsylvania Ballet and the Dance Theatre of Harlem. Twelve performers will dance to music of the same name by Bach, wearing costumes by Leigh Alexander ’09.

Guest artist Jon Lehrer, artistic/executive director of LehrerDance and former company member and associate director of Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago, has worked with Goucher dancers to perform his piece “Pantheon Rising,” set to an original score by Florida-based composer Damien Simon.

Goucher dancers will also perform a reconstruction of Doris Humphrey’s “Grieg Concerto” under the direction of guest artist Patricia Ackerman, company member of MOMENTA, a dance company that preserves works by early modern dance greats. Gail Corbin, a leading exponent in the technique and work of Doris Humphrey and Charles Weidman, coached the piece.

Rounding out the program will be works by Goucher dance faculty Elizabeth Ahearn and Linda Garofalo, who focus on themes of reflection, resilience, hope, peace, serenity, and strength.  Ahearn’s “Alone, Yet Not Alone” was inspired by the Oklahoma City National Memorial honoring the victims, survivors, rescuers, and all who were affected by the Oklahoma City bombing on April 19, 1995. “With Grace” by Linda Garofalo, in collaboration with Goucher dancers and composer and digital artist Cuong Nguyen ’14, is a contemporary, multimedia, theatrical work inspired by all those with the strength and courage to persevere through life’s challenges.
