Goucher said goodbye this week to dear friend Emily Newcomer Eby, Goucher class of 1924 (seen here in her senior class portrait). She passed away on March 13, a mere 17 days from her 109th birthday. Emily’s Goucher friends recall her fondness for Wilbur Buds chocolate candy and her 1924 Goucher song book, as well as her remarkable zest for life well into her 100’s. Mrs. Eby was a long-time supporter of the college – most notably  through the Emily Newcomer Eby’24 Scholarship Fund, which she established in 1999 to honor her 75th class reunion. Through her scholarship, Emily’s legacy will continue to transform the lives of Goucher students, faculty, and staff.

On Sunday, March 7, nearly 60 guests gathered in Buchner Hall to honor members of The John Franklin and Mary Fisher Goucher Society. The reception offered the chance to recognize and chat with some of the most extraordinary alumnae/i, parents, and friends of Goucher College. Ambiance was provided by student pianist, Robert Fantana’10 (pictured above). His original compositions served as the perfect prelude to a stunning performance by Leon Fleisher, the featured artist at Goucher’s 50th annual Henry and Ruth Blaustein Rosenberg Lecture-Performance, held that same evening in Kraushaar Auditorium.
