Upcoming opportunities to study/research in Germany

DAAD – German Academic Exchange Service

The German Academic Exchange Service sponsors numerous opportunities for U.S.  undergraduates and graduates to pursue study, independent research or internships in Germany.  Here are some opportunities and their upcoming deadlines:

EMGIP – Bundestag Internship
Deadline: September 15, 2012
A two-month internship in the German parliament, the Bundestag. Positions will match student interests and academic/professional experience. Applicants must have junior or senior standing in fields such as political science, international relations, law, history, economics or German. They must also be fluent in German and possess excellent writing skills.

German Studies Research Grant
Deadlines: November 1, 2012 and May 1, 2013

These grants are awarded to highly qualified undergraduates nominated by their department chairs. The grants may be used for short-tern research (1-2 months) in North America or Germany. They are meant to encourage research and promote the study of cultural, political, historical, economic and social aspects of contemporary German affairs from interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary programs.

Study Scholarships for Graduating Seniors
Deadline: November 15, 2012

These provide highly qualified individuals with an opportunity to conduct independent study or complete a full Master’s degree in Germany.

University Summer Course Grant
Deadline: December 15th, 2012
Scholarships for three to four week summer courses taught in German at German Universities, with a focus mainly on literary, cultural, political and economic aspects of modern and contemporary Germany.  Applicants must have sophomore standing and a minimum of four semesters of college German.

Undergraduate Scholarship
Deadline: January 31, 2013

Sophomores and Juniors can apply for these scholarships funding study, thesis research or internships in Germany. Applicants should demonstrate an interest in Germany and explain how their time there will impact their future or academic goals.

internXchange Summer Journalism Internship Program
Deadline: January 31, 2013

This unique program provides outstanding young journalists and communications students with an opportunity to immerse themselves in the society, culture, values and political attitudes in Germany.  Participants spend six weeks at the Freie Universität Berlin for a series of full-day seminars on German politics, culture and media.  They subsequently embark on an intensive five-week internship with a German newspaper, magazine, radio station or PR agency.
