Beer, Bourbon, and BBQ. Is there any more glorious a sentence in the English language? The Bubble thinks not, which is why it fully endorses this event. On April 5th, from 12-6, at the Maryland State Fairgrounds, sample from more than 60 brews, tons of Bourbons, and lots and lots of BBQ. Did we mention that you are entitled to unlimited tastings of the beer and bourbon? Tickets are $30 for regular admission, $40 for VIP, but both get you a souvenir glass in which you can imbibe to your heart’s content. On top of all that, Mr. Greengenes will be rocking the main stage all day! For more info, and to order tickets, click here. This is one BBQ party not to be missed!

First off, a quick apology to all you loyal Bubble readers. Yours truly has been bogged down with lots and lots of work, and has been unable to keep up with all the happenings in and around Goucher. But I’m back now, so I appreciate the three of you keeping up with your Bubble fix. Now onto the news:

On Thursday, April 3 at 8 p.m. in Merrick, Alberto Mora will be discussing the mistreatment of U.S. detainees, and the current administrations attempts to cover up that mistreatment in their “War on Terror.” Mora will no doubt focus on Guantanamo Bay and Abu Ghraib as specific examples of this horrific mistreatment. This is a lecture that should not be missed.

On Monday, April 7 at7:30 p.m. in Merrick, Goucher College will host a panel discussion with a very interesting topic. Should the legal drinking age in America continue to be 21, as it has been since it was changed twenty three years ago, or should it revert back to 18? Find out what experts and fellow students feel at this discussion.

On Monday, April 14 at 7:30 p.m. , head over to Kraushaar for the President’s Forum Lecture and hear Ron Paul speak about the issues that are important to him, issues he feels this country should pay attention to. Following his lecture, Mr. Paul will hold a book signing. This is certain to be a refreshing change from the normal political pontificating.

Check back here soon for more news from the greater Baltimore area. If there are any events happening on campus that you would like posted on the Bubble, just email bubble@goucher.edu.

Don’t we always say how international we are at Goucher? But what opportunities are there to experience and/or share experiences that are international in nature? Maybe you’ve just returned to campus from a semester abroad, or your club has an international or cultural focus. You want to share your experiences, but how?

By participating in Extravaganza: Think Globally, Celebrate Locally!

Extravaganza will be an international talent and fashion show where students, faculty and staff can bring music, dance, poetry and much more to the stage as a means for sharing culture they’ve grown up in or that they’ve experienced abroad. We are also seeking cultural attires for a fashion show portion of the program. If you don’t consider yourself talent or fashion inclined, you can also consider contributing to the international food reception that will be held during intermission. You can participate as an individual, club or a group not affiliated in any way. Spread the word and show us what you got! This program begins and ends with your contributions! To participate, fill out the short form you can download by clicking on the link below so that we may build the program, by April 1, 2008.

Extravaganza will take place on April 10th at 7:30 p.m. in the Heubeck Multipurpose Room

We appreciate and recognize that the continental United States is full of its own diverse culture, however, this is meant to be a celebration beyond our borders. Submissions for all countries beyond the continental USA will be accepted. Please feel free to forward this your your friends! For questions, comments or ideas, please contact Amanda Antara. This program is sponsored by The Language House, the Office of Community Living and Multicultural Affairs and the Student Activities Office.
