better coed than dead?

It hasn’t always been lollipops and rainbows for male students at Goucher, like the picture above gracefully illustrates.  Just one score ago, Goucher administrators made a decision that changed the face of its student body forever by allowing those with a Y chromosome to attend the school.  Many alumnae/i and current students were outraged by the decision.  Now, twenty years later, this very issue will be resurrected.  Moderated by President Ungar, the panel discussion, titled “Better Coed than Dead?  A Retrospective Look at the Turning Point in Goucher College History,” will examine Goucher’s decision to admit men and how that decision has shaped the college.  The panel will consist of: Professor Jean Baker ‘61, Kimberly B. Gordy ‘06, Paul Powell ‘03, Marilyn Southard Warshawsky ‘68, Ken Knowlton ‘07, Merideth Schmidt ‘08, Jennifer Summers ‘94 and Risa Gorelick ‘91.  The panel discussion will begin at 7:30 p.m. tonight (April 19th) in the Chapel.  No tickets or reservations are necessary.
