A Machiavellian puppeteer, a nasty witch, and a lonely little girl all are characters in the sixth and most recent book written by Laura Amy Schlitz ’77. Called Splendors and Glooms, the book today was named a Newbery Honor Book.
It is the second time the author has received Newbery honors: Schlitz received the 2008 Newbery Medal for her book entitled Good Masters! Sweet Ladies! Voices from a Medieval Village.
The Newbery Medal and the Newbery Honors are awarded annually to authors who have made significant contributions to American literature for children. To read a short interview with the author click here.
